When international students try to find jobs in the UK, many feel pressure trying to succeed in a competitive job market. Some falsely believe UK nationals are favoured in application processes, but in this article we will be debunking such rumours. In partnership with Grad Careers Coach, we hope to inform international students on how they can put themselves in the best possible position during recruitment.

Visa Sponsorship and Covid-19

A Tier 2 Visa is the main pathway for international students to work in the UK long-term, and can be obtained when you secure a full-time role at a firm which sponsors you. Obtaining a Tier 2 Visa sponsorship will likely remain as difficult a procedure as it was before the pandemic. However, with many UK nationals delaying job applications due to uncertainty (and with many foreign students returning home), now may be best time for students to become sponsored.

If you would like to find out more about the impact of Covid-19 on Tier 2 Visa jobs, make sure to check out these two links:

Aside from the bureaucratic difficulties of gaining a Tier 2 Visa, finding information in an unfamiliar environment about the careers process can be daunting. Therefore, get involved with university societies, or with professional services such as Grad Career Coach. With the help of such organizations, your dream job isn’t out of reach.

What is Grad Careers Coach?

Grad Careers Coach (GCC) is a careers support hub for international students looking to go into Banking, Finance, Law, and Science-related careers. Finding a graduate role in the UK market is tough; especially during a time when recruitment cycles have been torn apart due to Covid-19.

Once connected with Grad Careers Coach, you will be guided by specialist career coaches. Once set up with a contact at GCC, you will be contacted weekly to make sure you get the service you desire.

Coaches from GCC are highly skilled, with experience in ensuring success in securing graduate roles. At GCC, senior professionals with industry-specific knowledge and graduate recruitment specialists can help your application stand out from the rest. Being part of GCC also lets you build interview skills, along with building your network.

With regards to problems faced by international students, it is vital to know how you can remain in the UK. There are around 30,000 companies that provide Tier 2 sponsorship, and Grad Careers Coach provides a list of those companies if you just send them your CV, along with a description of the industry that you are interested in.

Key Takeaways

Hopefully this article has shown you that international students are not disadvantaged when applying for roles. Through services such as GCC, you can not only develop the skills needed for the competitive UK marketplace, but also ensure that Visa-complications don’t stand in the way of your hard work.
